Wine activities in Dijon — friends tasting wine in the Burgundy vineyards

Let's stop with the '10 must-dos' lists

You don't need ten wine activities in Dijon. You need three or four really good ones, and to know which to avoid. Here's our frank opinion, based on what our guests tell us when they leave.

What's genuinely worth it

Visit a small family estate on the Côte de Nuits. Not a museum-estate with a scripted tour, but a real winemaker who lets you taste in their cellar while telling you about their vintage. Marsannay and Fixin are the most accessible villages from Dijon (10-15 min by car) and the winemakers there are often more available than in the star appellations. Book via Winalist to filter by reviews.

Do a blind tasting with friends or as a couple. It's the activity that generates the most laughter and debate. Nobody is as good as they think, and that's precisely what makes it fascinating. The Winer boxes we offer in our suites are perfect for this: no prior knowledge needed, the app guides you.

Cycle through the Climats. The Climats de Bourgogne (the UNESCO-listed vineyard plots) aren't an abstract concept — they're a real, stunning landscape, accessible by bike from Dijon. Rent a bike in town and pedal towards Marsannay or Chenôve. In autumn, the colours are spectacular.

Dijon's Halles on Saturday morning. The covered market designed by Eiffel (yes, that one) is an institution. Cheese makers, charcutiers, winemakers… It's loud, lively, and you'll find producers who'll let you taste their wines without fuss.

Good but not extraordinary

The Cité Internationale de la Gastronomie et du Vin. It's a lovely space, well designed, but it's more of a museum than a real wine experience. Go if you have time, but not as a priority. The tasting workshops held there are more interesting than the permanent exhibitions.

Wine courses in town. It depends hugely on the instructor. Some are brilliant, others read from a script. Check reviews first rather than booking the first Google result.

What we recommend less

Vineyard 'bus tours'. You spend more time on the bus than in cellars, stops are timed and you retain nothing. Rent a car or take a taxi — it can be the same price for two, and you set your own pace.

The advice we give every guest

Do less, but better. One estate visited with care is worth more than three rushed through. One carefully chosen bottle is worth more than six bought in haste. Burgundy wine is exactly this philosophy: the quality of the moment over the quantity of experiences.
